Advanced and Complex Medical Emergencies

The 3 day ACME Course is available to Fellows, Advanced Trainees in their final two years of training, and SMO/CMO/MOSS working in emergency departments.

Description

The course will be on Wednesday-Friday, 11-13 November 2020

CPD Points Allocation (Fellows only)

30 points can be claimed under Accredited Workshops.

 

REGISTRARS

  • Senior trainees in the final two years of training may attend the ACME course. A letter of support from their DEMT must be supplied. Senior registrars in the Auckland region are eligible to have their course fees reimbursed by NoRTH. For further information contact Kate Clapperton

SMO/CMO/MOSS

  • SMO/CMO/MOSS working in EDs must provide a letter of support from their FACEM Director

 

In a warm and collegial environment the ACME course aims to stimulate and provoke the experienced physician practicing Emergency Medicine and who wishes to be challenged, by:

• Using simulation to improve the understanding of human factors and their impact on the
quality of team-based clinical care within the emergency medicine environment.

• Providing an update on key clinical skills, with core modules on
o Cardiovascular instability,
o Airway and respiratory emergencies,
o Complex emergencies,
o Death and dying,
o ED workplace wellbeing
o Optional modules: previous modules have been toxicology, obstetric emergencies,
and prehospital emergencies.

• There are many opportunities to participate in small and larger group discussions with peers
about important clinical and non-clinical topics: a feature that is perhaps unique to this
course.

The course is held at the Simulation Centre for Patient Safety (SCPS), University of Auckland, Grafton Campus

Cost: NZ$3,000 including GST (includes full catering, course dinner and all course materials).
